Each year, ADVANCE for Nurses — a regional newsmagazine covering nursing in Maryland, Virginia, and the District of Columbia — judges top nursing teams across the Mid-Atlantic. It is a competition that focuses on key aspects of leadership among nursing teams, including initiative, adaptability, teamwork, recruitment, retention, and knowledge. The competition routinely involves more than 1,000 entries.
Martha Jefferson nurses are no strangers to receiving recognition in this competition, with multiple nursing units having been named in the "top five" teams in the region during the past several years. In 2009, however, ADVANCE Martha Jefferson Nurses Win Best Nursing Team Award for Nurses bestowed its highest honor on 33 nurses of our own.
The South 7 Medical/Surgical/Oncology Nursing Unit at Martha Jefferson Hospital was named ADVANCE for Nurses Best Nursing Team for 2009.
"This award reflects the unwavering commitment to excellence among our nurses," said Amy Black, Vice President and Chief Nursing Officer. "We have a spirit of camaraderie and caring for each other that translates into a highly effective and healthy work environment. It keeps our nurses here, it keeps them motivated, and it ensures a top level of clinical quality for our patients."
