The mission of Martha Jefferson Hospital Department of Pharmacy Services is to improve the health and well-being of our community through safe and effective medication use. Clinical services provided by the department include attending patient care rounds, renal function monitoring, drug interaction monitoring, pharmacokinetic monitoring, parenteral nutrition monitoring, and a focus on a decentralized but integrated model of care delivery.
In addition to our Residency Director, we currently have eight Preceptors for our residency program. We currently have two residents.
Meg is the Pharmacy Services Clinical Coordinator and Residency Program Director at Martha Jefferson Hospital. She received her Doctor of Pharmacy from the Medical College of Virginia/Virginia Commonwealth University and successfully completed an ASHP-accredited pharmacy practice residency at the University of Virginia Health System. Meg serves as a preceptor to residents in the internal medicine and drug information learning experiences. Her areas of professional interest include infectious diseases, adult internal medicine, and geriatrics. She is involved with the Virginia Society of Health-System Pharmacists where she served as regional president and was awarded the New Practitioner of the Year Award in 2007.
Janet is the Director of Pharmacy and Emergency Services at Martha Jefferson Hospital. She serves as one of the preceptors in the pharmacy practice management rotation. Janet received her Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy from the Medical College of Virginia/Virginia Commonwealth University and her Masters in Business from James Madison University. Janet is currently a Doctor of Pharmacy candidate at Creighton University. Janet is a fellow of ASHP and has served actively in state and national professional associations. She is also a former president of ASHP.
Mark is the Clinical Staff Pharmacist for the Martha Jefferson Hospital Outpatient Infusion and Cancer Care Center. Mark earned his Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy from Duquesne University School of Pharmacy and his Doctor of Pharmacy from the University of Maryland School of Pharmacy. Mark completed an ASHP-accredited Hematology/Oncology Pharmacy Practice Residency at Walter Reed Army Medical Center. In addition to his experience as an Oncology Pharmacist, Mark was also a Drug Information Specialist at the University of Maryland Drug Information Center. Mark joined Martha Jefferson Hospital in 2005 and is the Oncology preceptor.
Wayne is a clinical staff pharmacist at Martha Jefferson Hospital. He received his Doctor of Pharmacy from the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia. He is currently a member of the American Society of Health System Pharmacists, and serves as a preceptor for residents during the orientation phase of the program.
Joe is the Disease Management and Wellness Coordinator for Martha Jefferson Hospital employees and clinical staff pharmacist for Martha Jefferson Hospital. Joe received his Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy from the University of South Carolina and his Master of Science in Health Evaluation Science from the University of Virginia. He serves as preceptor for the longitudinal ambulatory care learning experience. He is past regional president of Virginia Society of Health-System Pharmacists and is a member of the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists.
Emily is a clinical staff pharmacist at Martha Jefferson Hospital. She received her Doctor of Pharmacy from the Medical College of Virginia/Virginia Commonwealth University and completed a PGY1 residency at Martha Jeffeson Hospital in 2008. Emily serves as a preceptor to residents in IV sterile compounding/nutrition and emergency medicine earning experiences. Her areas of professional interest include emergency medicine and critical care.
Bonnie is a clinical staff pharmacist at Martha Jefferson Hospital. She received her Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Bonnie currently serves as a member for the Society of Critical Care Medicine and serves as preceptor of the critical care pharmacy practice rotation.
Michael is a clinical staff pharmacist at Martha Jefferson Hospital. He received his Doctor of Pharmacy from the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill. Michael is currently a member of the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists, the Virginia Society of Health-System Pharmacists, and the North Carolina Association of Pharmacists. He is the pharmacy residency preceptor for orthopedics and nutrition services.
Wayne is the Pharmacy Information Systems Coordinator at Martha Jefferson Hospital. He received his Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy from the Medical College of Virginia/Virginia Commonwealth University. Wayne is currently a member of the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists. He is the pharmacy residency preceptor for information systems.
Che is currently a PGY1 pharmacy practice resident at Martha Jefferson Hospital. He earned his Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the Medical College of Virginia/Virginia Commonwealth University in 2012. His current interests include hematology/oncology and infectious diseases. His residency project will be evaluating the current aminoglycoside nomogram and implementing a new protocol for aminoglycoside dosing. Upon completion of his PGY-1 pharmacy residency, Che plans to apply for a PGY-2 pharmacy residency in oncology.
Samantha is currently a PGY1 pharmacy practice resident at Martha Jefferson Hospital. She earned her Doctor of Pharmacy degree at the University of Pittsburgh School of Pharmacy in 2011. Her current interests include critical care and ambulatory services. Samantha's residency project will be evaluating the current vancomycin nomogram and based on that data, implementing an effective protocol for inpatient dosin Upon completion of the PGY1 residency, Samantha plans on practicing as a clinical pharmacist in Charlottesville, VA.
ThuyTien is a PGY-1 pharmacy practice resident at Martha Jefferson Hospital. She earned her B.S. in Biological Science with emphasis in Neurology from University of California, Davis. She completed her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from Pacific University, Oregon in 2011. Her current interests are critical care, oncology, and administration. ThuyTien will develop a research training manual for pharmacy preceptors for her residency project. Upon completion of the PGY-1 residency, ThuyTien is considering a PGY-2 residency in oncology.
Sara is currently a PGY1 pharmacy practice resident at Martha Jefferson Hospital. She earned her Doctor of Pharmacy degree at the Medical College of Virginia/Virginia Commonwealth University School of Pharmacy in 2012. Her current interests include oncology, internal medicine, and critical care. Sara's residency project will be evaluating the effect of hospital pharmacist intervention on compliance with congestive heart failure core measure compliance. Upon completion of the PGY1 residency, Sara plans on practicing as a clinical pharmacist in central Virginia.
